When most of us think of our pantry, we think of a small space tucked away behind a door, often full of wire shelves brimming with food staples and family snack favorites.  When most of use dream of a pantry, we picture the space of home editing dreams.  A bright space, with labeled storage and full of coordinated baskets and bins and where everything has a home.

The great part about a kitchen remodel is it allows you to rethink existing spaces, such as your pantry, and think about what it could be.  Do you have a laundry room off your kitchen that you’re thinking about converting?  Perhaps a pass through space to the garage or a dine-in kitchen where you no longer dine?  Extra square footage during your home improvement project, may just be there ideal spot to create the pantry of your dreams.

When considering a pantry remodel, think about what you store todaday verses what could be housed in the space if you had more room and how much square footage you’re willing to set aside.  Many homes today have a dedicated space off the garage for a mud-room or an alcove dedcated to dropping off bags and shoes, but often it is under utilized or not used at all.  This area is perfect for floor to ceiling cabinetry and can house both food essentials, tucked away in drawers, and in decorative canisters or baskets, as well as glassware and pottery often hidden away in corner cabinets.

Perhaps you have a little more space, create a walk-in pantry that coordinates with your kitchen remodel and has room for kitchen appliances, food essentials, large platters and wine storage a budding sommilier would love.  Incorporating drawers at varying depths, open and closed shelf storage and cubbies allows you to have a place for everything and makes your every day kitchen essentials become a lovely backdrop.
